Puzzle games built for the daily commute

A good commute puzzle game has to survive being interrupted. Your train arrives, you pocket the phone mid-level, and it needs to still be there when you pull it back out. That's harder to find than it should be.

I look for games with instant pausing and no move timers. Logic puzzles and tile matchers work best because you can hold a whole board in your head between stops. The moment a game punishes you for stepping away, it's off my phone.

One thing I've learned: the best puzzle games ramp difficulty slowly and never gate progress behind waiting. If you're stuck, it should be your brain, not a countdown.

For offline commutes specifically, avoid anything that streams new puzzle packs. You want the whole set downloaded so a tunnel doesn't leave you staring at a loading spinner.

My routine is one hard puzzle per trip. Solve it and I feel oddly accomplished before I've even reached the office.
